I got a Creative Zen Vision M 60GB, my primary means of listening and watching media on the go in 2008, which even back then was pretty long in the tooth (the player had been introduced in December 2005, and I remember craving for it back then). Yes I’m used to waiting a long time for things. It’s cool to have this outdated, yet still pretty good piece of technology in my hands, like seeing people with first generation iPod Nanos on the train, and to take it even further back not too long ago someone I knew still regularly used a cassette Walkman.
I guess sometime over the next few years I’ll have to make a change, and I considered the iPod Touch, but I have no idea whether it would be worth it to go back to the pain of using iTunes on a PC again. The iPhone is right now out of the question because I don’t really want to be tied down to a data plan, and I think I’d like to have a phone with a better camera for those situations where you just have to take a shot and you don’t have a camera handy.
I wish Creative would make a comeback from behind and produce a media player that was as good as the Zen Vision series was back in 2005-2006, but even their very promising Zii Egg platform doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, which is sad really.
